Final Adieu
They met in the spring
Of life, idealists and
Comrades in a cause
The cause ripened
In the heat of summer
To free a nation
In the fall of life
They met again
Old friends mellowed by age
Now in winter
She stands alone
Remembering
Final adieu
To the rebel with a cause

Your beautiful poems ‘Final Adieu’ and ‘The Walk’ are, in my opinion, the finest of your wonderful talent…’Final Adieu’ is indeed very touching and stirs within me a deep emotion…your writing speaks so delicately about that fading-down time of life when we lose a friend we have ‘mellowed in age’ with…you speak of the reality of what happens when the course of life is in its final thrust…I love your words “now in winter she stands alone”…they are very special to me and very emotional…your reference to the closing time as “winter” sets a gentle and reflective tone.
I love this poem with all my heart, Ceol.
